The CC Girls Varsity Golf Team completed their season at Michigan Statue University's Forest Akers West Golf Course on Saturday, October 18th by winning their third straight MHSAA State Championship! After the first day of competition on Friday, the Lady Cougars were 20 strokes ahead of second place Detroit Country Day. Leading the team on day 1 was Senior Margaret Deimel who shot 80, which was good for 3rd place out of 108 golfers. Right behind Margaret were Seniors Kelsey Preston and Sofia Piccione who both shot 81 (tied for 4th place), followed by Senior Mary Irwin (94) and Sophomore Audrey Jeakle (103). On the second day of competition, Kelsey Preston improved on Friday's results by carding a 78, bringing her two day total to 159 and a 3rd place overall finish. Margaret Deimel's 86 on Saturday brought her two day total to 166, good enough for a 6th place finish and Sofia Piccione also finished with an 86 for a tournament score of 167 and 7th place overall. Mary Irwin's 96 brought her two day total to 190 and Junior Colleen Kirk's 100 completed the scoring for CC. This year's State Finals were the first for Colleen Kirk and Audrey Jeakle - very good performances on a challenging Forest Akers West course. Saturday's performance increased the Cougars' lead to 29 strokes over eventual runner-up Grand Rapids Christian, bringing an end to a season that saw the team take home the Catholic Central golf program's 5th State Championship in the last 4 years. Thank you to the parents for all your support this season and to the CC administration and supporters for coming out to MSU to watch the girls compete this weekend! CONGRATULATIONS girls on an amazing season!!!!
